Working the Midline

In this video CrossFit founder, Coach Greg Glassman explains the importance of training the midline aka core. While we have the benefit of two GHD developers here on Dunbar Street, Glassman comments that many CrossFits to their detriment have not equipped themselves with these expensive, space-dominating pieces of equipment and that other boxes with GHD developers rarely use them.

The Recipe for Fitness

CrossFit's success began long before it became a household name. Before Reebok, before ESPN and before there was a CrossFit in every Vancouver neighbourhood CrossFit was already a thriving grass roots community spreading like wildfire. Why? Bottoming Out

Tabata push ups, 2 mile run, Tabata bottom-to-bottom squats was the WOD. It produced more whimpering, grunting, swearing, collapsing and tears than I have witnessed in a long time. I think its safe to say that everyone enjoyed it.

How do You do Despair?

What do you do when a WOD comes up that is comprised of 3 movements you hate? What if you are weak at all 3? And maybe you can't even do them all RX'd. What if your weak-assed modification was still weak and slow? What do you do when you are already 80 minutes in and suffering?

Totaled!

I can't remember what the Vancouver weather was like yesterday but I can tell you it was a fine day on Dunbar Street because the WOD was the CrossFit Total. Our members stepped up to perform countless personal best one rep maxes in the back squat, shoulder press and deadlift.

Inverted Burpees

8 minutes, 8 movements. You wouldn't believe you could get a great workout in only 8 minutes but this CrossFit WOD sure did the trick! It included squats, push ups, box jumps, pull ups, burpees, double unders, wall balls and my favourite of all: the INVERTED BURPEE!
