Suffering from bunions, valgus knee, ankle immobility, knee pain, hip pain, back pain, plantar fasciitis?

The problem could be your big toe.  And it might be caused by your footwear.  Our connection to the ground begins in our feet and they were designed to move freely and interact with the ground.  Too many of us have kept our feet bound for too long and we’re suffering the consequences.  But don’t take it from me, speed, strength and agility coach Alex Nurse put together a fantastic article on the subject.

Interestingly, a recent study found that subjects suffering from osteoarthritis saw their symptoms improve when they went barefoot.  Turns out that shoes increase the mechanical forces on the joints (at unnatural angles, I should add).  The study does not prove that shoes cause osteoarthritis but does suggest looking in that direction next.

Your footwear is not doing you any favours.  I know the rest of the world expects you to go about shod but at Empower we welcome you to free your feet and discover the benefits of training barefoot.
