Get to know your fellow Empower members better! On the second and fourth Thursday of the Month we will be posting Members’ stories about what brought them to  CrossFit Empower and keeps them coming back for more.  We hope sharing their experiences will also help others who have not tried CrossFit better understand the impact it can have on their health and fitness.

This Thursday’s Testament is from a bright spirit The Finisher who has been a CrossFit Empower member for 6 months and is a 5pm regular.

What brought you to CrossFit?

I had tried CrossFit several years ago through a fitness program at my work (BCIT), and loved it. I tried to find a gym, however they just didn’t seem to be the right fit for me.  When Thunder (Patti Lawson), a paddling team mate and CrossFit Empower member told me about it I had to find out if the gym would work for me.

What was your first impression?  How has it changed?

I felt an immediate connection to the coach (Corey) and the gym. He understood my concerns and worked with me carefully through each exercise.

I love the intensity of CrossFit but as I am getting older I am acutely aware of some of my physical limitations. However, I am consistently encouraged by the coaches to keep challenging myself to improve by modifying the exercises to best suit my needs.

What was your first bright spot (win/positive experience)?

There have been a few, however most recently, I did 3 pull-ups with only one green band!

What are you working on now?

I am focusing on my technique in most of the exercises.  Specifically, I’m working on lifting heavier weights without compromising my form (I’m not the most patient person).

What’s your favourite Empower memory so far?

During this year of Covid rules and restrictions, my favourite Empower memories are, and continue to be, the bantering, discussions and training tips with other members and coaches.

So glad you found us The Finisher! Thank you for sharing your experiences. It is wonderful to have you in the gym and to witness your progress.   Way to go!
