Ropes, cargo nets, rings, monkey bars; When you walk into Empower it feels like walking into an adult-sized playground.  And that’s what it is!

At Empower we’re helping adults rediscover the joy of play.  When you were a kid you didn’t need to go to a gym, the world was your gym.  You didn’t need an exercise routine; Every tree branch, park bench and bannister was an opportunity to move and challenge your body.  You were too busy chasing your friends around the playground in a game of tag to take up jogging.  Your heart, lungs and muscles worked harder doing it too though it never would have occurred to you as work.

You didn’t need discipline to drag yourself to the gym for another monotonous morning of solitary drudgery, plodding along on the treadmill or getting your miles in on the stationary cycle.  You were biking or skateboarding over to your friend’s house and then racing them up and down the street. 

You had fun.  You got fit.  You played games.  You got fit.  You hung out with friends.  You got fit.  And you didn’t do any of it in order to get fit, fitness was just a byproduct of how you lived your life.

And then came school.  And work.  And responsibility.  And the burdens of adulthood.  And somewhere along the way you stopped playing.  You know you’re supposed to exercise.  You know your health is important.  But now it seems like just one more chore on your never-ending to do list.

And then came CrossFit.  Clean and jerks and pull ups are far more fun that hamstring curls and ab crunches.  Cartwheels, skin-the-cats and handstand walks are movements you enjoyed attempting as a kid in the park, all the while laughing with your friends.  Instead of a routine CrossFit presents you daily with a new game creating the opportunity to compete with yourself and your friends.

Because CrossFit brings people together.  At Empower you get to hang out with other like-minded people and play together laughing and joking and challenging each other like you were kids in a playground again.  They’ll introduce you to their friends and family and you’ll introduce them to yours and the gym will become a playground where you gather with the people you love most in your life.  Suddenly fitness is no longer a solitary pursuit but a means of forging lasting and meaningful bonds, of creating and sharing meaningful memories.  It becomes an opportunity to celebrate each other and the joy of community!

And when you rediscover how to play you also rediscover that spring in your step.  Because you start to move like a kid again, you start to feel like a kid again.  You don’t just feel younger, you look younger.  You are younger!  The more you laugh and play the better you feel.  Like the years are melting away.  As if you’ve discovered the fountain of youth.  Because you have.  But maybe it’s better described as a secret playground.  And you’ve found it!
