Bunions: Causes and Prevention
Footwear Education
I am a huge proponent of bare foot training and attribute much of my health and athleticism to a lifetime spent in the martial arts where training is all done barefoot. Strong, healthy feet contribute to the health of all the upstream joints. Narrow shoes that crush your toes in and prevent them from performing their job inevitably lead to an atrophy of the muscles necessary for balance and function. You think those shoes you invested in are expensive? Just wait until you have to pay the bill for the damage they are doing to your health and fitness. Do I ever wear shoes? Sure. But only if there is running or rope climbs in the workout.
Nutrition for Women: Are you eating enough protein?
I’m going to keep posing you this question until every member at Empower can answer with a resounding yes. Not happy with your body composition? What Do Big Tobacco and Ultra-Processed Foods Have in Common?
Yes, your snack food was designed, marketed and sold to you by the same people who lied about the dangers of smoking.
Myth of Blue Zones
Did you watch the Netflix special? I tried to. One of the guys made a fortune by trademarking the Blue Zone name and licensing it to hundreds of companies looking to cash in on the latest hot topic in health, lifestyle and nutrition. Few of these products had anything to do with Blue Zones. Oh, and it turns out, the whole Blue Zone thing, appears a bit questionable. What did all of those places have in common? Poor birth records and a lot of seniors applying for old age pensions. And guess what? The longevity recorded in those places appears to have been transient and does not persist.
