Go to our online store and you will see a bunch of Weck Method toys. These are training tools that HeeHee and I had the opportunity to play with while we were in San Diego. Many of which we brought home with us. They are tools to enhance training outcomes. They are not necessities.

I am going to go through each of them and give you my two cents on them based on my experience so far:

RMT Ropes (aka Flow Ropes)

Love these. Yes, you can make them yourself if you are a DIY person or on a budget. There are lots of folks enjoying all the benefits of flow rope with home made versions. But I love the feel of the Weck ropes, the weight is just right. And I love rope flow. There is a reason so many hardcore athletes have adopted this practice. It is subtle and profound. This will likely be Weck Labs greatest contribution to fitness.

Verdict:

Rope flow: essential

Weck RMT Rope: optional

Long RMT Bands

We have a pair in the gym, and I keep a pair at home. I love these for neuro priming and isometric training. More tension than our pull up bands and longer. Loger is important if you want to pair the bands with the BOSU ball. If you aren’t using them with a BOSU the tension benefits can be replicated by doubling up on regular pull up bands.

Verdict:

Essential: No (unless you plan to pair them with the BOSU ball)

Do I prefer them: Yes

BOSU Ball

This is the product that made David Weck wealthy. But is it essential? I remain unconvinced. Fun for balance practice? Sure. Good for neural priming and select isometrics? Yes. Useful for training internal and external torsion? Yes. Is it a tool that I use daily? No. Do I use it often? Yes. Do I need it? No.

Verdict:

Essential: No

Do I like it: Neutral

Sole Steps

These two pieces of shaped wood are probably the biggest surprise to me. Surprising enough that I purchased a pair for my home use. Standing on them changes my weight distribution in such a way as to correct my right hip issue. Also, placing them on the foot pedals of the C2 rower removes all hip discomfort from my row and allows me to activate hip stabilizer muscles that I don’t usually access during the row. Even though I do not use these everyday, I feel better having them around.

Verdict:

Essential: No

Do I like it: No, I love them!

RMT Pulse (Hand pulsers)

Weck Labs uses these to correct running gait. No coaching required. The auditory feedback trains you to correct your running mechanics in order to get into rhythm. That at least is the theory. Coach Titan tells me that his running coaches used similar tools to train them so, I think the theory is sound. But to be honest, I still have not had enough time to test mine.

Verdict: Jury is still out

RMT Clubs

I love club bells and hammers for developing rotational core and shoulder strength and integration. If you want a strong and resilient core and shoulders with good mobility you NEED to be training this way. I’ve been using sledgehammers for this purpose for more than 20 years. More recently I purchased a full set of clubs off Craigslist at a bargain. What is different about the RMT clubs is that they are filled with ball bearings so you can use auditory feedback to correct your swing mechanics. Essential? Maybe not, but fun. You can get by with just the hammers but, I do understand why some folks prefer the Weck RMT clubs.

Verdict:

Essential: No

Fun and useful: Yes

Weck Sprung Vest

David Weck is sure that this is the next big thing. He already has a lot of video testimonials from big names in the fitness industry. The spring-loaded weights in the vest are supposed to move with you to reduce impact forces while allowing you to produce more power. We got to test them in San Diego. All the course participants swore that it was a game changer. Me? I just did not feel the difference. I was left wondering if I was missing something or if everyone else were eager Kool Aid drinkers. It’s too bad because I was really excited about this one. It was something I fully intended to purchase. But based on my experience, we did not bring one of these home with us from San Diego. Feel free to prove me wrong.

Verdict:

Effective: I remain unconvinced

Worth the Price: Doubtful

So there you have it, our complete catalogue of Weck toys currently available through the Empower store. Yes, we receive some commission if you buy through us. No, it will not cost you anything extra. In fact, if you use our promo code you will save yourself 10% on all purchases. I’ve tried to be as honest as possible in my reviews. While a lot of the products are fun and useful, I don’t think any are strictly necessary. They are nice-to-haves if you like training toys and can afford them. If not, we can improvise most of them with what we have in the gym.
