
April Antics: Strong in Body, Kind in Mind
Welcome to April Antics with Amy.
This month I’ll dish out a daily dose of practical wellness on the gym’s IG account. If you've ever hit April 1st with a plan to “get on with it” before summer hits, you are not alone! I’ve been there many times and would like to share what I've learned along way to give you a boost if you need it. Only tiny shifts dished up with kindness and care will be offered. Stay tuned!
🌿 Day 1 Tip: Create a Veggie Bucket – Again!
Let’s start with something simple but incredibly effective. Pick three vegetables you actually like, chop them up and place them in a container front and center in your fridge. If your veggies are buried in the crisper they are more likely to waste away, uneaten. A tragedy! When they’re easy to grab, your brain chooses them by default, especially when you’re hungry or tired. This April, work to make the healthy choice, the easy choice.

🥦 Wednesday Whip It:
Crispy Roasted Broccoli with Lemon & Parm
Broccoli is leafy powerhouse masquerading as a side dish. Make a huge batch and add it to all your meals this week. It is great with eggs! Broccoli is packed with fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants, fabulous for your immune system, digestion, and mood.
Ingredients:
1 large head of broccoli (or 2 small), cut into florets
2 tbsp olive oil
Zest of 1 lemon
Juice of ½ lemon
¼ tsp sea salt
Fresh cracked pepper to taste
2–3 tbsp grated Parmesan
How to Whip It:
Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
Toss broccoli florets in olive oil, lemon zest, salt, and pepper.
Spread on a non-stick baking sheet in a single layer.
Roast for 20–25 minutes, flipping once, until crispy and golden.
Finish with a squeeze of lemon juice and sprinkle of Parmesan.

💪 Lift Over 40: Now Enrolling

Lift Over Forty is a six week small-group women's strength development class that runs on Sundays from 11am - 12pm at Empower. It is designed to help women over forty build confidence with the barbell and increase their fitness in a fun, easy-going space.
I am shifting the format this session to:
One lift per class
Including a short, manageable met-con at a lighter barbell weight in the last part of the class
Providing one nutrition strategy handout for your fridge per week.

12 chest-to-bar pull-ups
12 wall-ball shots
12 box jumps
♀ 14-lb medicine ball to 10 feet and a 20-inch box
♂ 20-lb medicine ball to 11 feet and a 24-inch box
