From Self-Doubt to Success: The Mindset That Changes Everything
“I believe that success is achieved by ordinary people with extraordinary determination.” – Zig Ziglar
Thought of the Day
How many times have you stepped up to a new challenge and felt like it was bigger than you? Many times, when we want to change or adjust our current habits, things get harder. Because things get harder, it becomes easier to stay the person we’ve always known ourselves to be. This is why real determination is required to make lasting changes. Whether it’s committing to a fitness routine, starting a new sport, improving your diet, or growing as a leader, the road will not be easy. But if you are determined to stay the course—even in the face of adversity—you will get there.
One of my coaches once told me that the difference between the first-place and tenth-place finishers is their mindset. The first-place competitor knows they deserve to be there, while the tenth-place person often second-guesses themselves or makes the moment feel bigger than them. This stuck with me because when I show up to any competition, I strive to have done enough work leading up to it so that I feel like I belong.
In life, imposter syndrome can creep in at the worst times. You just need to be prepared and build habits that work for you. While you may not feel complete confidence, you will develop the competence to hang in there.
Progress Over Perfection
As you continue your journey, setbacks will happen. Your goal should be to reduce them over time, not to be perfect from day one. If you want to write a book, sit down every day and write. If you want to eat better, take it one meal at a time. If you want to get stronger in the gym, keep showing up and be willing to challenge yourself.
If you are struggling to find consistency in your fitness routine, I have a great Vancouver gym for you—Empower. We are here to support you as you make positive changes toward your health and fitness goals. You don’t need to be extraordinary or have elite genetics to get where you want to be. You just need to be consistent and extraordinarily determined on your journey.
