Training for HYROX in Vancouver? Why the Right Equipment and Coaching Matter
HYROX is taking the fitness world by storm. Combining running with functional fitness challenges, this increasingly popular competition is attracting everyone from seasoned athletes to people looking for a new fitness goal.
And with HYROX Vancouver coming up in December, more people than ever are looking for ways to prepare.
As HYROX grows, so does the number of gyms offering HYROX training. But here's something worth knowing: Not all HYROX training experiences are created equal.
If you're preparing for a HYROX race, having access to the right equipment and experienced coaching can make a significant difference.
At Empower Every Body Fitness in Vancouver, we're proud to be an official HYROX Training Club. More importantly, we have the actual competition equipment, HYROX-certified coaches, and dedicated training sessions to help you prepare for race day.

Why Training With Real HYROX Equipment Matters
A HYROX race consists of eight 1-kilometre runs, each followed by a functional fitness station.
Those stations include:
1,000m SkiErg
50m sled push
50m sled pull
80m burpee broad jumps
1,000m rowing
200m farmer's carry
100m sandbag lunges
100 wall balls
On paper, these movements might look straightforward. But performing them efficiently, especially when you're already fatigued, is another story.
Take the sled push, for example.
Pushing a competition HYROX sled requires a particular combination of strength, body positioning, and technique. The resistance you experience depends on the sled, the surface, and the weight you're moving.
Practising on an actual HYROX sled gives you valuable experience that general strength training alone can't replicate.
The same applies to wall balls. Developing an efficient rhythm, learning to control your breathing, and practising the movement to competition standards can help you avoid wasted energy and unnecessary no-reps.
And then there are sandbag lunges. Carrying a competition-style sandbag across 100 metres, particularly after several kilometres of running and multiple workout stations, presents challenges you might not anticipate.
The more familiar you are with the equipment and movements, the fewer surprises you'll encounter on race day.

At Empower, We Have the Real Thing
One of the advantages of training at Empower is that we have the equipment you need to prepare for all eight HYROX stations.
That includes official HYROX competition sleds, wall ball stations, sandbags, SkiErgs, rowing machines, and farmer's carry equipment.
This means you can practise the actual movements you'll perform during competition, using equipment designed for those demands.
HYROX-Certified Coaching Makes a Difference
Having the right equipment is important. Knowing how to use it effectively is equally important.
At Empower, all of our coaches are HYROX certified.
Our coaches understand the demands of HYROX competition and can help you develop the skills and strategies needed to perform your best.
Whether you're tackling your first HYROX or trying to beat your previous time, that guidance can make a real difference.
You Don't Have to Be an Elite Athlete to Train for HYROX
One of the things we love about HYROX is how accessible it is.
Yes, there are elite competitors pushing the limits of human performance. But HYROX also attracts everyday fitness enthusiasts who simply want to challenge themselves, work toward a goal, and see what they're capable of.
At Empower, we welcome athletes of different ages, abilities, and experience levels.
You don't need to be an experienced competitor to join our HYROX training sessions.
Our coaches can help you modify workouts to suit your current abilities while progressively building the strength, endurance, and confidence you'll need.
And even if you don't have a race on your calendar, HYROX training offers an excellent combination of cardiovascular conditioning and functional strength.
It's challenging, varied, and a lot of fun.

Already Belong to Another Gym? You Can Still Train With Us
You don't have to give up your current gym membership to benefit from HYROX-specific training at Empower.
Maybe you love your regular strength training routine. Maybe you're a runner who wants to improve your performance at the functional fitness stations. Or perhaps you attend another gym that offers HYROX-inspired workouts but doesn't have all the competition equipment.
Our HYROX classes can complement what you're already doing.
We offer five- and ten-class passes, making it easy to add dedicated HYROX training to your existing fitness routine.
This gives you access to authentic competition equipment, certified coaching, and the opportunity to practise alongside other athletes preparing for similar challenges.
