Thought of the day

Showing up 2

This morning I was lying in bed, still feeling sore from the weekend’s competition, thinking how cool it is to still be able to compete and do athletics that I enjoy.  Being way closer to forty than thirty and still having the physical capacity to be out on the competition floor. Not just in Jiu Jitsu but also in the sport of CrossFit. This realization really gives me a huge appreciation for the athletes in their forties and even late fifties still doing this stuff and showing up to compete. My mom was definitely not competing and doing things this athletic when she was my age. I am very fortunate to be a parent and still able to show my kids that athletics can be a part of their lives at any age.

On the floor this weekend, looking out to the audience was such a huge gift. It was awesome to be able to have fun competing and not taking things too seriously. Also running into many gym owners, athletes and other business owners that I have known for years, that we don’t get to see every day, was bonus. I am starting to realize that training will be there for me forever but competition may have a shelf life. When you get out to your next competition opportunity make sure to be present and enjoy the moment. The next one is not guaranteed. Enjoy the moment and be willing to put yourself out there.

This attitude is not just for competitions, but should also be a focus for life. We all know that person that is a big whiner and that never wants to take responsibility for their lives or choices. This person is always passing the buck to the next person for things going wrong and not being grateful for all the things going right. We will be here for so long, let’s not wait to enjoy the things we have going for us. It starts with taking responsibility and being in action. If you do those things you will be able to be in control and enjoy even the little moments. This week try to acknowledge someone in your life that you are grateful for and be present for all the little wins through your week.

In life it is easy to focus on the negative things or things not going the way you had hoped. Instead of focusing only on that remember to be grateful for the things that are going well. It can be a simple competition, having your gym open during a long weekend, or being able to spend a weekend with your family. Instead of being a whiner and just coming to your life with complaints, take the moment to be grateful for all the little wins and things that are going well or are in progress.
