Preparing each Day

“Confidence comes from being prepared.” –John Wooden

Preparation 1

Thought of the day

Preparation 2

A lot of why we train the way we do is to be prepared for the unknown and unknowable. The times we are training for a specific event or reason such as a tournament, bike race, or marathon to list a few examples. And then our life demands a new or different skill set from us that we have not been specifically training for. For example a few weeks ago a friend of mine called up out of the blue asking if I could help him move. Because of the training, in the gym, it was not a problem and I was able to help for many hours and still be okay. Even though a lot of my training right now is how to be more effective at taking people down and choking them (while preparing for world masters) I was able to help him move without any issue or lingering soreness or pain after.  When you are prepared and competent your ability to be confident when unexpected tasks comes up increases. What unexpected things have come up and allowed you to show off your fitness?

Preparation 3

It can be easy to get caught up in the day to day grind. Thinking about each day as your performance on that workout compared to your peers. But really the most important part is how your focus and training are preparing you to tackle your everyday life.  The best personal bests to me are the life related ones. Because these show how all of you are showing up better in your lives and for the people you care about most. Some of my highlights from members include: helping build the playground for a school, showing their grandkids tricks on the monkey bars, learning how to swim, helping a friend move without back pain, bring heavy suitcases up stairs for guests and not even thinking about it just to name a few. By being willing to come in each day you are preparing to be able to live and show up in all the important areas of your life.

Preparation 4

We are here to empower you all to have more freedom with your health and fitness. It is not only about your performances in the gym but how those performances will help you in your life. Right now you may not have a specific thing you are preparing for but know when coming into the gym you will be preparing for skills that can help you with the unknown and unknowable elements of life. Keep on preparing and you will be able to be confident in the face of your next challenge.

Preparation 5

Preparation 6

Tuesday will be another and our only make up day for this coming week. Because we have Shaft’s going away event on Saturday, Friday will be a regular workout day. For Tuesday’s session, as always, you will get to work on a skill, take on a workout you missed or challenge one of the additional workout options.
