SOS Saturday Meal Tip: The Heaviest Weight

August 30, 20252 min read

The heaviest weight in the gym?

It’s the front door.

Shout out to everyone who pushed through and got workouts in this week, especially if you “weren’t in the mood.” That effort? It was all you. Salute.

The kitchen? It has its own version of the front door: making solid food choices when you really don’t feel like it.

Fuel comes first. You don’t have to cook from scratch every time.

Nothing appealed to me this week. I threw a lunch in the garbage. My husband made amazing mashed potatoes, but I only ate a few bites. The one thing that was tasty? Blueberry smoothies.

Don’t get me wrong. I could eat a muffin with a crumbly top no problem, but that’s not what I need. I’m aiming for balanced meals. And when time’s tight and nothing in the kitchen looks good, it’s an extra challenge to make that happen.

So here’s my advice if you find yourself in that space: prioritize your nutrition by keeping it simple.

Thursday morning, I had to make a choice. Walk to the gym, which I hate missing or drive so I could hit Whole Foods afterward and grab food I could actually eat. Sure, I could’ve gone to No Frills under the gym, but there was nothing there that fit the bill. The car won. Proper food was more important than some steps this morning.

At Whole Foods, I picked up some essentials: precooked potatoes, two small sausage links, a few sautéed veggies, salmon, meatballs, and blueberries. The mission was: things I could mix and match with what I already had in the fridge. I made the following quick breakfast when I got home:

Quick breakfast (approx. 30g protein total):

  • 2 eggs scrambled

  • 1 small breakfast sausage

  • Roasted potatoes and vegetables

  • Tablespoon guacamole

  • Kale smoothie (3 cups kale, 1 cup unsweetened almond milk, 2 tbsp powdered peanut butter, 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder)

It was fast, tasty and I felt better. Tides are turning!

Bottom line: Fuel first. You don’t have to cook from scratch every time. Sometimes the win is assembling something simple that checks the boxes and moving on. 🏃
