Coaching at Empower

Spice Talks About Her Experience of Coaching at Empower

November 12, 20242 min read

A love letter to our Empower coaches... from Salsa

I have huge respect for our Empower coaches.

And I'm not just saying that in hopes they'll go easy on me in the gym.

Their ability to discern what is needed for a class or individual member (whether instructions, explanations, encouragement, or a stern "squat lower!") amazes me.

I also admire their ability to crack (and take) a joke to keep the mood light, and their humility in readily admitting when they can't demo a movement exactly or immediately answer a question.

And while every coach has their own style, the overall vibe is always, "We're all in this together—so let's have fun doing it!"

As a community, we talk a lot about how your time at Empower should be the best part of your day. And our coaches play a HUGE role in making that a reality.

What does it take to become a coach at Empower?

Given the praise above, you might think you need to be some kind of unicorn athletic guru to become an Empower coach.

But no. You don't have to be born with a superhuman kipping pull-up or the ability to perform double-unders for days.

You don't even need past experience as a lifting coach for the Bulgarian Olympic team.

What you do need is a willingness to learn (i.e. coachability) and a commitment to helping others become the best versions of themselves.

And if you're already part of the Empower community, then all the better — since you know what we're all about.

This isn't to say that coaching at Empower is an entirely selfless act either.

As an Empower coach, you'll become part of our coaching team, with all the camaraderie, support, and training that comes with it. You'll also further your own fitness practice by deepening your understanding of CrossFit movements and witnessing the setbacks, challenges and personal bests of others.

But don't take my word for it.
