Empower Rookie of the Year?
We’re just past halfway through 2026. Maybe it’s too early to call it.
But as a coach, experience has taught me what to look for when predicting winners. You might think that it comes down to skill, inborn talent, mental toughness, drive, or how hard an athlete works, but none of those traits foreshadow success as well as the one criterion that matters most.
Consistency Is the Greatest Predictor of Success
Because the truth is that all other attributes are secondary. At day’s end, consistency builds champions. It’s as basic as that. Doesn’t matter where you started. Doesn’t matter how talented you are. Your ability to show up day-after-day is the one thing that separates the athletes who produce the results they desire from those who do not.
We often refer to these outliers as gifted athletes. But they didn’t get that way by accident. You know who they are: Bobo, Motor, Hardrock, Magnum, The Assassin, Dauntless, Shades, KMT, Pepper, Smash, HHH, Shine, Doc Disc, The Ghost, Dangers, Peril, Mufasa, Gift, DT, Badger, Daredevil, Iron Dam (and yes, I know there are more Empower athletes who qualify for this list but these are the ones that I see personally during my coaching shifts).
People who put in the work, showing up four to five times per week, experience amazing results. You know it’s true. All you need to do is look at how Shutter and W1A have dominated the personal best board throughout 2026. But let’s face it, showing up is the hardest part. Life is filled with distractions, and motivation is fleeting.

Coaches Can Spot It Early
A coach can tell who is going to make progress. If you are struggling to attend class three times per week, regularly missing weeks at a time, the prognosis is not favourable. Maybe you will stick around, but the chances that you excel are poor.
A Rookie Who's Setting the Standard
What prompted me to comment on this, however, is the performance of a recent Empower rookie. Since graduating to group classes, I am not sure she has missed any days. Every day I am at the gym, I see her showing up and working hard. Not since The Ghost and The Assassin have I seen a newcomer so committed to getting the most out of their membership. And you have seen for yourself how quickly those two athletes have progressed in group classes.
If you train at 6am, you already know who I’m talking about. Yes, Sister Cat has impressed her coaches and classmates with her championship-level ability to show up. No matter the workout, she is there with a smile, ready to give it her all.
I am so proud of her effort and can already see it paying off as she grows stronger and sharpens her skills. She sets for all of us an example worth following.

Build the Habit, Reap the Rewards
And no, you do not need a stellar rookie debut to become successful. A lot of the Empower stars I listed above started out slow and only developed their consistency muscle later on. But when they did, their performances soared. Yours can too. Channel yourself a bit of Sister Cat’s consistency and watch yourself transform. Don’t believe it? Give it a try. Four WODs per week for 3-months, no missed workouts, no excuses, and see what happens: you will be a whole new person.
