The Power Is Already Yours: How One Small Step Today Changes Everything Tomorrow
“Focus on your dream and do everything in your power. You have the power to change your life circumstances.” – Nick Vujicic
Thought of the Day
If I could leave my kids with one thing, it would be the understanding that they have the power to change at any time. By having the one percent better each day mindset I discussed in my last blog, change and adjustment become more possible. Watching kids today, it’s easy to see how perfectionism is stopping them in their tracks. But if they only knew that working toward being just a little better today could lead to massive gains tomorrow.
When we’re in a tough spot, whether it's in fitness, finances, family, or anything else, it’s tempting to want to hit an “easy” button and fix everything at once. But unfortunately—and also fortunately—it doesn’t work like that. If you have poor squatting technique, you can’t just put a massive weight on your back and hope to lift it safely and successfully. But by going back to the basics, working with appropriate loads, and improving your technique over time, you’ll earn the right to become the person who can lift those massive loads.
This basic gym concept applies to every area of life you want to improve. For me, one of my big focuses is earning my Judo black belt. On this journey, I’m lucky to be surrounded by many great Sensei’s and training partners. Last week, Sensei Ko showed me a concept that really helped put some pieces together. It was fun to coach that idea this week with his guidance—and even more rewarding that he noticed my improvement in just one week. These small adjustments and tweaks are the things that will level up my instruction and allow me to give even more to my students.
Now it’s your turn. What small change will you make this week to improve an important area of your life? And if you have children, how can you involve them and use this simple gym principle to help positively shape their future?
We all hold the power in our hands to change our circumstances—for better or worse. So what’s one small thing you can do today to become who you need to be tomorrow?
