Empower Youth Athlete Gives Back!

A  message from Coach Finn and how he decided to launch our Empower Youth Athletic Fund. 

Hi!

My name is Finn. I’m a grade 12 student at Lord Byng Secondary School and a youth coach and athlete at Empower Everybody Fitness. Through my parents, I’ve been a part of the gym’s close-knit community for almost ten years. It’s been an extremely positive experience for me. Our CrossFit community and the sport itself are both very important to me, and have helped me during extremely difficult times. It’s given me an outlet for my emotions, a community that accepted me, a strong mentor in Coach Barb, and an activity that gave me confidence in myself and my abilities. Wanting to do more in our community, two years ago, I started volunteering as a youth coach with the goal of helping to grow the youth program at Empower. The program has grown significantly over the past few years, but youth CrossFit - and organized sport in general - can be expensive, and sometimes very deserving kids miss out due to financial constraints. I want to help do something about that. 

That’s why I’m working with Empower and Coach Barb to organize this fundraising event within the Empower community, with the proceeds going to Harbourside Youth Foundation. 

Over the coming weeks, I’ll be working to promote Empower’s annual 12 Days of Christmas event, and to let our membership know that the proceeds from this year’s event will be going directly to Harbourside to fund youth athletes within the Empower community. I’ll be soliciting direct support from our membership both leading up to and during the event with my goal being to raise enough money to support three youth athletes for a full year. 

I hope that this will be the first of many such fundraisers and the start of the Empower Youth Athletics Fund, allowing kids from all walks of life to have the positive experience with CrossFit that I have enjoyed.
