The Science of Longevity: What's Real, What's Hype, and What Actually Works?

October 10, 2026•3 min read

A free talk and Q&A with Dr. Rob Stenstrom (aka Mr. Fantastic)

What if you could live not just longer, but better?

That's the promise of longevity medicine, a rapidly growing field focused on extending both lifespan (how long we live) and healthspan (how long we remain healthy, active, and independent).

From supplements and medications to specialized diets, wearable technologies, and the latest biohacking trends, there's no shortage of products and practices promising to slow aging and improve our health.

But how much of it is backed by science? And how much is clever marketing?

On Saturday, October 24, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, Empower Every Body Fitness is welcoming back a familiar face for a special event exploring the science of healthy aging and longevity.

Dr. Rob Stenstrom, better known to longtime Empower members as Mr. Fantastic, will join us for an engaging, evidence-based discussion about what we know, what we don't, and what's on the horizon.

And yes, there will be plenty of time for questions!

Meet Mr. Fantastic: A Physician, Researcher, and Former Empower Member

Dr. Rob Stenstrom brings an impressive combination of clinical experience and scientific expertise to the conversation.

With more than 30 years of experience in emergency medicine, a PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from McGill University, and a background in clinical research and teaching at the University of British Columbia, Rob has spent his career evaluating medical evidence and applying scientific findings to real-world health challenges.

He's also a former Empower member, where he's known by his nickname, Mr. Fantastic.

His approach to longevity is grounded in something we appreciate at Empower: healthy skepticism, critical thinking, and a commitment to what actually works.

Beyond Exercise: What Else Can Help Us Age Well?

At Empower, we believe that functional fitness and strength training are among the most powerful investments we can make in our long-term health.

Building strength, maintaining mobility, improving cardiovascular fitness, and staying physically active help us preserve our independence and quality of life as we age.

But exercise is only one part of the picture.

What about supplements? Emerging medications? Nutrition strategies? New technologies? And all those biohacks promising to turn back the clock?

Some approaches have promising scientific evidence behind them. Others are unproven, overhyped, or simply not worth the money.

Rob will help us navigate this increasingly crowded landscape, examining the evidence behind popular longevity strategies and exploring developments that may shape the future of preventive health and healthy aging.

Expect an informative, thought-provoking conversation rather than a sales pitch or a list of miracle cures.

Bring Your Curiosity. And Your Questions.

This isn't a lecture where you sit quietly for two hours.

Rob has specifically set aside plenty of time for questions and answers, giving attendees the opportunity to dig deeper into the science and explore topics they're curious about.

Whether you're interested in improving your healthspan, maintaining your physical and cognitive abilities as you age, or simply making more informed decisions about your health, this is an opportunity to learn from someone who knows how to separate scientific evidence from speculation.

And you don't need a medical degree to participate. Just bring your curiosity!
