Introducing Sunday Skills Club: Get Better at the Movements That Matter

A new weekly opportunity to improve your CrossFit skills, refine your technique, and build confidence—one movement at a time.

Ever finish a CrossFit class wishing you'd had just a little more time to practise a particular movement?

Maybe you're working toward your first pull-up. Perhaps your deadlift technique could use some attention. Or maybe there's a gymnastics skill you've been struggling with for months.

During regular CrossFit classes, there's a lot to accomplish. Between warming up, learning the workout, practising movements, and completing the WOD, there isn't always enough time to focus on the finer details.

That's where Sunday Skills Club comes in.

Starting Sunday, November 8, at 10:00 a.m., Empower Every Body Fitness in Vancouver is introducing a new weekly class dedicated entirely to developing your CrossFit skills.

And the best part? It's included in your CrossFit group class membership at no additional cost!

More Time to Learn. More Confidence to Move.

Regular CrossFit classes give you a chance to use your skills. Sunday Skills Club gives you time to develop them.

Led by Coach Motor, these 60-minute sessions provide an opportunity to slow things down, ask questions, and focus on the techniques that can be difficult to master during a regular class.

Rather than racing against the clock or trying to complete a workout, you'll have time to practise movements, receive individualized coaching, and make meaningful improvements.

Whether you're learning the fundamentals or refining a skill you've been working on for years, Sunday Skills Club is designed to help you become a more confident, capable athlete.

What Will You Work On?

Sunday Skills Club alternates between two key areas of CrossFit training:

🏋️ Weightlifting Skills

Develop better technique, positioning, and control in movements such as deadlifts, squats, cleans, and snatches.

Improving your lifting mechanics can help you move more efficiently, build strength, and approach heavier weights with greater confidence.

🤸 Gymnastics Skills

Work on bodyweight movements such as pull-ups, toes-to-bar, handstands, and other gymnastics techniques.

Whether you're learning a movement for the first time or trying to progress to a more advanced variation, dedicated practice can help you develop the strength, coordination, and body awareness you need.

Coach Motor will select the focus for each session, so you'll always have something specific to work on.

First Up: Deadlifts!

Our inaugural Sunday Skills Club session on November 8 will focus on deadlifts.

The following Sunday, November 15, will feature a gymnastics skill.

We'll share the focus for upcoming sessions in our Weekly Training Plan blog posts and on Empower's Slack community so you can plan ahead.

Why Skill Development Matters

Getting fitter isn't always about working harder.

Sometimes, the biggest improvements come from slowing down and paying attention to how you move.

Dedicated skill practice can help you:

  • Improve technique: Learn to perform movements more efficiently and consistently.

  • Build confidence: Feel more comfortable tackling movements that once seemed intimidating.

  • Develop strength and coordination: Improve the foundations that support more advanced skills.

  • Make progress toward personal goals: Whether it's your first pull-up or a more technically sound lift, focused practice can help you get there.

  • Get more out of your regular CrossFit classes: Better movement skills allow you to approach workouts with greater confidence and control.

And because movement quality matters at every age, Sunday Skills Club is particularly valuable for adults who want to keep building strength, mobility, and physical resilience for years to come.

Is Sunday Skills Club for Beginners?

Absolutely!

You don't need to be an experienced CrossFit athlete to participate.

In fact, newer members may find these sessions especially valuable. Learning proper technique early can help establish good movement habits and build confidence as you progress through your CrossFit training.

More experienced athletes will benefit from the opportunity to refine their technique, address weaknesses, and work toward more challenging movements.

As with all our programs at Empower, movements can be adapted to your current abilities and experience level.
