About Coach Rachel

Yue Diao, also known as Rachel, is a CrossFit coach at Empower Every Body Fitness in Vancouver and a Ph.D. candidate in timber engineering at the University of British Columbia.
She first discovered strength training during her master’s research, realizing it helped her handle full-scale specimen testing. What began as a practical tool quickly became a passion — one that deepened after she moved to Canada.
Rachel joined Empower to refine her weightlifting skills and soon found herself stepping into competition, making her debut at the 2022 CanWest Games as an intermediate individual athlete.
With an engineering mindset, Rachel is fascinated by the mechanics of movement. She strives to train safely and efficiently, always seeking to understand the “why” behind technique and programming.
As a coach, she combines scientific curiosity with athletic experience to help members:

Build strength with intention
Embrace challenges inside and outside the gym
Rachel believes in leading by example and empowering others to think critically about their movement and progress.
Rachel is fluent in English and Mandarin and understands conversational Cantonese.
CrossFit Level 1 Certification
National Academy of Sports Medicine Certificated Personal Trainer (2020-2022)
Rachel coaches CrossFit group classes and provides personal training at Empower Every Body Fitness in Vancouver’s West Side (Point Grey / Kitsilano).
