As I reflected on our developing understanding of the complexities of human health, it occurs to me how often what we think we know is wrong or, how sometimes it is right but for the wrong reasons. Take for example, organic food. I’ve listened for decades to the arguments back and forth about whether or not there is any benefit in prioritizing organic food over conventionally grown produce.
Though more prevalent in women, osteopenia and osteoporosis are serious risk factors for an ageing population. It turns out that bone mineral loss in populations that are not malnourished is a result of insufficient mechanical stress, specifically load bearing and impact force.
The back squat should be a staple in every strength and conditioning program.
