Do you have an athlete that likes to compete? Check out today's blog!
WOW, wow, wow! If you had a chance to watch our Elev8 teen athletes compete last weekend you were in for a treat! This event held at the Richmond Oval was filled with challenges and achievements. Huge shoutout to our 4 athletes who had never competed in this style event before. Outstanding work from everyone, but boy were they sore by late Sunday night. All of them were happy to rest on the holiday Monday.
For those that have never been to a CrossFit competition it is pretty amazing to watch. Ages 15 to 55+ all out there doing what they love.
What does a competition look like? A typical competition is made up of 3-5 workouts. the workouts will cover most of the CrossFit domains. It will include a weight lifting challenge, like the Snatch complex. A cardio piece like Event 1 with shuttle runs. Then they can vary with gymnastics movements, like toes to bar, pull-ups, and handstand pushups. All of this can be as prescribed (Rx) or Scaled.
Teen Athletes: Do they lift the same as the adults? No, generally the weight they lift tends to be on the lighter side and there is always a scaled option which is great. We want them to feel successful, but we also want to challenge those teen athletes that have dedicated a lot of time getting good at all the CrossFit movements.
How long does my teen need to train before doing a teen competition? It is usually encouraged that they train at least 6 months to a year of CrossFit to learn and get good at all the movements. Most often it takes a couple of years to feel truly comfortable enough. This is if they start from no experience of any sports. Some athletes come by it naturally and learn pretty quick.
